Today, for current events Wednesday, were in the computer lab using inspiration to summarize the article we read as a class.

We watched Key Constitutional Concepts-Chapter 3 (Checks and Balances) and began discussing it.

Students read chapter 3 section 3 and did the accompanying questions. They were due at the end of the hour.

Students had their last day in the computer lab working on their inspiration assignments.

Students were introduced to the Inspiration concept mapping software and started creating a concept map of the three branches of the U.S. Government in the computer lab.

Heidi and Ron met with 9th Graders about their learning styles all hour.

Students finished taking notes from Friday and took a quiz on chapter 3 section 1.

Continued the notes from yesterday.

We began reading chapter 3 section 1 about the U.S. Constitution. Students took notes while I lectured and we discussed the goals of the Constitution as a class.

Students took the Chapter 2 test and afterwards worked on their current events assignment.

Continued the crossword from yesterday and studied for the Chapter 2 Test.

Students finished the assignment from Friday and began the chapter 2 crossword puzzle to prepare for Wednesday's test.

We finished taking the notes we started yesterday.

Students took notes on the first half of chapter 2 section 2 (Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation) while I lectured.

We finished reading the Declaration of Independence and students finished their assignment on it. Afterwards students started working on their own personal declaration of independence from whatever they wanted. That assignment is due Monday.

Had more time to work on yesterday's assignment and gave the class examples of various types of governments.

We reviewed the test from Friday, students then read chapter 2 section 1 and did the accompanying assignment.

Current Events Wednesday

Students were introduced to our weekly current events assignment. We then read an article together about immigration, citizenship, and higher education.

Students read pages 14-20 in their textbooks about the U.S. census and completed the accompanying questions.

We finished the notes from Friday, students then took a short quiz on the section.

Together as a class we began reading Chapter 1 Section 2 and students took notes.

Today students read and took notes on Chapter 1 Sections 1 out of the American Civics textbook.

Students reviewed the ALC Student Guidelines and the Student Code of Conduct. Students then worked on the "Get to Know Your Textbook!" assignment, which was due at the end of the hour.

First Day of School

Welcome to my blog! I am the teacher for Social Studies 9A and Social Studies 9B. First semester will be Social Studies 9A (a civics class) and second semester will be social studies 9B (a careers class). This is my third year in the Forest Lake District and my sixth year teaching overall. I am excited you're here and I'm excited to be your teacher. Please feel free to email me any questions you might have throughout the year. This blog is intended to keep students and parents up-to-date with what we are doing in Social Studies 9A and 9B. I am looking forward to having a great year and hope you are, too!

Today students were introduced to the class, my room, and were given a syllabus that needs to be signed by a parent and returned tomorrow.
